The Urban Iditarod – Klondike!  Olentangy Greenway Trail – North Section  (Camping at Lazarus afterward) The Iditarod is a race for life. Be prepared for whatever you encounter …When: January 29th & 30th, 2022.Where: Olentangy Trail, 600 W Wilson Bridge Rd, Worthington, OH 43085, overflow parking at 500 W Wilson Bridge Rd. CampLazarus, 4422 Columbus Pike, Delaware, OH 43015Who: All Scouts, Crews and Webelos with a Troop sponsor are invited to attend.Registration: On line, Simon Kenton Council website. Check in will be at the parking lot north of the Hills Market 8 AM to 9 AMon Saturday and Passports will be handed out at that time.Camping and Parking: For the Iditarod, park vehicles in the parking area north of Hills Market. For the overnight campout, park inthe lot in front of the Visitor Center at Camp Lazarus.Tent camping for Units wishing to earn the Polar Bear Award will be available. Check with the Campmaster to receive a siteassignment. To stay in a cabin you will need to make your own reservation on the SKC website.First Aid & Emergencies: Local EMS will be available along with first aid support staff on site. Troop Leaders should havemedical release/history forms for each Scout.Unit Leader Notes: We ask all units to use traditional Klondike Sledges that can be modified to use wheels in case of a lack ofsnow. Plans have been included as guidelines and there is no intent to disqualify any entries. There will be bonus points for sledgesthat are within specs and that can bear the weight of equipment and hold together for the weekend. Sledges will be judged forapproved length of 6 feet and width of 18 inches. Accessories may be added a canvas snow curtain as a snow guard front and sidesto keep equipment dry. Additional points will be awarded for sledges decorated for the Camporee Theme.The event is being held on a public hiking trail. Remind the Scouts to remember the Oath, Law, Motto, Slogan and The OutdoorCode.Please check the District Web Site for any revisions or last-minute changes. Think SNOW!!!Dress: Be prepared, weather is unpredictable.Patrol Equipment: The following equipment and supplies are required for each patrol entry. They should be transported on theKlondike Sledge and available through the event.Scout HandbookPatrol First Aid KitPatrol Flag (attached to sledge)Fire making suppliesAppropriate cold weather lunch for patrolWater for patrol¼ inch rope for pioneering project (3 six foot lengths)CompassTwo (2) 20’ length rescue ropesExtra Warm Clothes for EmergencesPatrol Roster, Paper and PenCarabineer (plain)Duct TapePencilTentProgram: Passports will be given to each Patrol at registration. The Iditarod is a race for life.
